The 3/50 Project has been quite successful in its mission: to raise awareness of supporting local business. We’ve come a long way, baby. But with big box stores popping up in more and more small towns across the country our fight is far from over. Below are a few of my favorites for you Okies. Pop in, say hello and spend a few bucks to help keep an honest-to-goodness small operation thriving during the month of February (one of the slowest months of the year for retailers)!
Brecheen Brothers Area Rugs & Furniture: Various styles of furniture, home decor and rugs at very reasonable price points.
Wood Creations, Moore: Custom wood furniture and home decor, hand crafted and painted.
Showplace Market, Moore: 9000 sf vendor mall with home decor, jewelry, gourmet food items, Cafe, Book Nook, Free WiFi, hand-crafted items.
Cedarburg Square, Bethany: Home Decor, Boutique items, gourmet foods.

People SAY they want to help support the local business
movement but let’s face it; that can be difficult. Searching out those smaller operations who have what you really want can be a chore. Designing Diva is proud to shop locally whenever possible and I have listed a few of my favorite shops within the OKC Metro that are owned and operated by people right here in your own town.
1) Cedarburg Square in Bethany, located across from Southern Nazarene University. Great home accessories, bedding and gifts!
2) Brecheen Brothers in Oklahoma City, located on W. Reno behind Mathis Brothers. Hot hot hot furniture items at amazing prices. Mind-blowing selection of rugs of all sizes and price ranges.
3) Showplace Market in Moore, located off of I-35 and 19th St. Vendor mall, over 100 booths of must-see treasures for the home.
So if you’re looking for someplace new to try out this week and you love when your money stays close to home, stop by one of these-or all of these- wonderful businesses and tell them the Designing Diva sent you! Happy hunting!

Jennifer Hicks, Designing Diva Interiors with Stacy Carter, Cedarburg Square
After months of heart-and-soul planning, manual labor and countless trips back to the house to “just do one more thing”, the participating designers in this year’s Symphony Orchestra Show House celebrated a job well done at the home of Anna McMillan, a committee member for the Orchestra League. Our work here is done but your isn’t! Pick up your tickets for only $12 in advance at many local retailers, including Bruno’s Home Furnishings and Cedarburg Square, grab your friends and support the local arts while you tour this one-of-a-kind home sitting on Lake Overholser (2550 E. Overholser Drive). I would like to personally thank Cox Electric, Patti Wommer of Custom Draperies and Lezley Lynch of Lezley Lynch Faux Designs for their incredible and generous work to make this room become reality!

Company is coming… are you ready? Some of Designing Diva’s favorite retailers and manufacturers are releasing their Thanksgiving decor this week and I’m loving what I see. From the simply modern to the classically traditional, these accessories and dinnerware are a sure-fire solution to a boring table setting. No time to shop and decorate? What a coincidence: Designing Diva Interiors is here for even the small jobs, like creating the perfect setting for your family dinner. Call 405.816.9716 today to schedule your consultation, but don’t waste another minute! The holiday schedule fills up quickly and at this time, the Designing Diva does not make midnight emergency house calls (sorry, procrastinators).
I am in love with Wisteria’s “In Fine Feather” hand towel. Accent your dining table by placing these under your serving dishes (where the feathers show, of course). See the Wisteria catalog or www.wisteria.com to order.
Put a cork in it! Well, actually, you can put a place card in it. My favorite tabletop trick to date is slicing a wine cork lengthwise and putting your place card inside the cut. If you drink wine at home, start saving your corks now so you will have enough come showtime! Cards can be purchased at stationary and craft stores or buy a set of 8 ready-made holders (seen below) from www.uncommongoods.
All ruffled up! The plates on your table say a lot about the personality of the host/hostess. You can’t go wrong with Pottery Barn’s Great White dinnerware-obviously (mix and match with more colorful dishes if you get bored) but Crate and Barrel has won my heart this fall with their new Ruffle Foil Charger. Available in red (shown below), gold, plum and green, these delightful plates add life to any table instantly! (14.95, set of 4)

Birch bark candles complete any style! Everyone looks lovely in candlelight and pillars of all sizes are a staple in my book. My personal favorite is the Birch Pillar collection from Pottery Barn. This candle looks amazing with all sorts of style: Cottage, Modern, Traditional, Eclectic. And their burn-time is astounding, so enjoy your leisurely dinner and sit a spell! These candles will keep the room aglow for hours.

I have certainly seen my share of every Hobby Lobby, Gordman’s and Pier 1 in town but whenever possible I try to shop locally-owned businesses for my clients’ needs. Below is my short list of places I can’t get enough of for everything from one-of-a-kind lighting to quirky wall decor!
~ Cedarburg Square, Bethany (www.http://cedarburgsquare.com/)
~ The Rink, Bethany (antiques/vintage)
~ Bruno’s Home Furnishings, Oklahoma City
~ Mockingbird Manor, Oklahoma City (antiques/vintage)
~ Sterlings, Edmond
~ Uptown Marketplace, Weatherford(http://www.uptownmarketplace.com/)

Support your local business owners! These experienced shop owners often travel the globe to bring their patrons truly unique items from European iron gates to vases from East India. Better yet, let Designing Diva Interiors do the legwork for you!
