2010 Symphony Orchestra Show House designers end work

What an exciting day at 2550 E. Overholser Drive! Like all other participating designers,  I worked on finishing touches for my room on Thursday and Friday so that everything would be up to par for the Tour Book photo shoot this coming Monday.  So why was today so exciting? This was the first day every room could be viewed in its completed state– fresh paint, ingenius furniture selections, unique artwork, cutting edge installations, it was there in all its glory. As I prepared fresh yellow roses (from The Arrangement in Yukon) for their vase in my room, I was filled with anticipation and a sense of relief simultaneously. After five months of planning it had all come together and it each room shined from the hard work that had gone into it. Once the last minute preparations had been completed,  I met the editors of Edmond Active Magazine at the home today for a photo shoot that will later be featured in their publication, on their website (www.edmondactive.com) and here at Back Talk.

As fantastic as Chris Hultner’s photographs will be, they will not do the entire home justice– it simply MUST be seen in person! Beginning May 1st the home will be open to the public. Tickets are only $12 and can be purchased at retailers around the metro, including Cedarburg Square in Bethany and Bruno’s Home Furnishings in Oklahoma City.  Want a sneak peek? Here you are!

Work on 2010 Symphony Show Home begins!

This week kicks off the period of time set aside for participating designers in this year’s Symphony Show House to begin their demo work (that’s the funnest part to a lot of people)! As you may already know DDI will be giving one of the 11 bathrooms in this Greek-inspired mansion a facelift along with the hand-painting talents of Lezley Lynch (www.lezleylynchdesigns.com).

I thought it may be fun to give readers an inside look at how a show home comes together so for the next few weeks I will be dedicating periodic posts to the progress of the Overholser Mansion (2550 E. Overholser).

So what’s on the menu for today? Once the painter and I can sync our schedules we will begin priming the wallpaper for its satin black paint– that’s no typo, I said black. This bathroom will have a 20’s glam vibe with a lot of mirrors to reflect the light as opposed to the formal red and chocolate brown palette that makes the room unmemorable. After that its off to hunt down a chandelier. I am hoping that my good friends at Bruno’s Home Furnishings or Hunzicker Lighting Gallery (both OKC) will have the one I’m dreaming of!

We hope you can make it by to check out the finished product! Stay tuned for developments with this room and for tour dates/ticket sales!
